The handheld game console developed by the Citra team is the first emulator of the Nintendo 3DS. It has been developed in C ++ programming language. Citra can run almost all homebrew games and many commercial games. Citra is required to run OpenGL version 3.3 or later. The name of the Citra is derived from CTR, the model name of the original 3DS. Citra does not work very well with older PCs and needs to run on x64 CPUs.
Citra is free and open-source and available for Windows, MacOS and Linux. Most of the development takes place on GitHub, and more than 170 developers have already contributed to Citra's project on GitHub.
The Citra was initially built in April 2014. The first commercial Nintendo 3DS game run by Citra was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Citra may also run some other games, such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Sonic Generation.
Citra can boot Pokémon games from 30 December 2015. Since February 22, 2016, the Citra's official website has changed significantly. Citra can emulate the sound from May 21, 2016, and from September 15, 2016, is the JIT compiler. As of the latest version, [Joe?] Pokémon Sun and Moon is fully playable, a milestone in emulator development.
From November 2017, Citra announced networking support to the emulator. Networking support emulates 3DS's local Wi-Fi, which basically made it possible to play locally, although the Citra team took it a step further and made it possible to play with other users anywhere.
The same team has also created the first Nintendo Switch emulator, named Yuzu.
Citra GPU Build isn't an official build and is a just a regular citra build with some changes in it's data to make it run a bit faster. Keep in mind the official versions are way better now so if this isn't something working out for you that try the official versions as they are too free of cost.
