Difference from Mario Kart 8

Most, if not all, of the game's concept, tracks, racers, and vehicle parts are from Mario Kart 8. These are retained and reused in the port version. However, there are some new features and differences that are different from the original game. These are:

  • Runners can now carry up to two items at once without having to drag the first item.
  • Mario Kart Double Item Box: Includes double dash !! returns.
  • The game introduces intelligent steering and automatic acceleration for beginners. Intelligent steering makes it easier to drive and maintain track, and auto-acceleration automatically accelerates the vehicle.
  • Vehicle parts and driver statistics have also changed, adding a 200cc engine class for time trials.
  • The game also has a separate game guide that you can access directly from the game menu.
  • The concept of fire hopping, which allows players to repeatedly "jump" to gain additional speed by boosting, has been banned or revived if considered a problem.
  • Some DLC-only vehicle parts are now randomly unlocked by collecting coins during gameplay.
  • Weight categories are now split into 16 weight categories instead of 9 weight categories.
  • Red Shells and Thorny Shells are slow when locking to the target. This means players can overtake them at 200cc with any type of speed boost.
  • All Mario Kart 8 battle courses have been abolished and replaced with battle cards in the style of the first 7 game battle cards.
  • Ultra Mini-Turbo (Pink Sparks) is available after Orange Sparks. This feature is only enabled when smart steering is disabled.
  • The course map is now white instead of blue. The maps for Three Rainbow Roads and GCN Baby Park have also been changed to iridescent white (or pink and blue for Baby Park).
  • When smart riding mode is enabled, the antenna sticks out from behind the cart.
  • Mario Kart 7 returns the backward rhythm that is played when the player is first.
  • The stamp is missing due to the lack of Miiverse on Nintendo Switch and the end of service 6 months after the game was released.
  • Confetti will appear at the start of some races, such as Mount Wario.
  • Item spies are removed to prevent anyone from being fooled.
  • The player will be inked even if he is trying to ink the player while the blueper is crossing the finish line. This is different from the Wii U version where Blooper or Ink disappears instead.
  • The character icon on the course map is a bit larger, more detailed and has a higher resolution.
  • When playing with a team, a flag of the corresponding color will be added to the back of the vehicle. These flags do not appear in Balloon Battles and Bob Omb Blast because the balloons indicate teams in these modes.
  • In the online race lobby, when you select a course, the engine class for the next race is displayed via the "100", "150", "150" mirror (for mirrors), or "200" icon at the bottom. To the right of the course icon selection. This also applies to online combat lobbies to display yellow balloons (balloon battles), potted piranha plants (renegade Roundup), coins (coin runners), shine sprites (shine thieves), or bobs-omb (Bob -omb Blast) indicates the combat mode you are about to play.
  • Players can now check the number of laps and timers while watching races and online battles.
  • While watching the replay video on Mario Kart TV, it is no longer possible to see the number of laps crossed the finish line at the end of the race and the full multiplayer results (including the online lobby).
