Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a Tactical Turn-Based RPG video game developed by Ubisoft Milan and published by Ubisoft for Nintendo Switch. This game is a cross between Nintendo's Mario and Ubisoft's Raving Rabbids series, and features both solo and co-op play. In the story of the game, the player controls Mario, his friends and a group of rabbits dressed like them, who face the aftermath of a sudden invasion of a group of rabbits who mistakenly abused a powerful invention that wreaked havoc in the mushroom kingdom.

The game was developed by the Italian studio of Ubisoft in Milan, conceived by Davide Soliani, Italian creative director of the studio, who presented the prototype to creator Mario Shigeru Miyamoto. It was released in Europe and North America in August 2017, and Nintendo released the game in East Asia in January 2018. It met with generally positive reviews from critics who praised its gameplay , its depth and its graphics. As of September 2018, the game has sold over two million copies.

Gameplay

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a tactical strategy game in which Mario works closely with his friends; Luigi, Princess Peach and Yoshi, along with four dressed like them like madmen, fight the enemy rabbits that are hindering their advance. In the main single player campaign, players control a robot named Beep-0 and lead a team of three heroes, including Mario, four worlds divided into several chapters, each of which consists of one or more battles. Along the way, players can find alternative paths and solve puzzles throughout the game world to explore hidden chests with new weapons or bonus materials such as 3D models and concept art. As the player progresses through the game, Beep-0 can learn new abilities such as pushing blocks and moving statues to reach previously inaccessible areas.

Combat occurs when the player reaches enemy territory. While most battles usually require the player to destroy all or some of the enemies, some missions involve other goals, such as reaching a certain area or accompanying another character. In these turn-based battles, the player can control a team of three heroes and an opposing team at will. On each turn, players can complete three tasks with each of their available heroes; Movement, attack and abilities. During the movement phase, players move the cursor to direct the character to an area within their range of movement. Characters can attack enemies to deal additional damage, enter white pipes to reach other parts of the map, and jump off each other to reach inaccessible areas. Each hero can attack with their primary weapons, ranging from simple blasters to large firearms, or secondary weapons such as melee weapons or grenades. Certain weapons can trigger positional effects such as dealing extra damage with hits or shots, or stopping certain tasks with ice or honey attacks. The effectiveness of the attack depends on whether the target is protected by the environment (for example, characters hidden behind a half-size wall are likely to be hit by 50%). Finally, the utilities have unique support effects ranging from blocks that can damage overweight attacks that can be initiated outside of the attack team. Some weapons and abilities are varied, so players need to use them again before spinning a certain number of times. In addition, some characters have their own passive abilities. For example, Peach can restore health when the team jumps, while Raging Luigi can maintain health when pushed by opponents.

Players lose when all of their heroes run out of health and are kicked out, or if they were unable to complete a task of a certain level. When the player clears the chapter, he gains skill coins and orbs, which can also be found by searching the outside world, with all characters increasingly receiving compensatory battles with fixed points. Coins can be spent on new weapons for each letter, and additional options may be available as the player finds weapon chests. Skill Orbs can be used in each character's skill tree, giving them certain new abilities such as health and range of motion. After clearing the world, players can send them back for additional challenge-based missions. Players can also unlock Co-op Challenges, in which two players, each with a team of two heroes, must work together to achieve clear goals. Additional weapons can be unlocked by scanning compatible amiibo figures.
