Super Mario Odyssey is a platformer video game developed and released by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch handheld consoles on October 27, 2017. The entry in the Super Mario series follows Mario and Cappy, a smart hat that allows Mario to control other characters and objects as you travel around the world to rescue Princess Peach from the enemy Bowser. The game returns to the predominantly open 3D gameplay featured in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, unlike the linear gameplay of previous games

The game was developed by Nintendo's Entertainment Planning and Development Department and began shortly after Super Mario 3D World was released in 2013. Some ideas were proposed during the development process and the team put them all together. I decided to use the sandbox style. how to play. New Super Mario Bros for casual viewers. Unlike previous releases such as Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario 3D World, the team designed the Super Mario Odyssey to appeal to fans of the series. The game also includes the first Jump Super Stars vocal theme in the series.

Super Mario Odyssey has been widely praised by critics, who have been described as one of the best games in the series, especially for its wisdom and originality. He has also won numerous awards, including the Game of the Year. By June 2020, the game had sold over 18 million copies and became one of Switch's best-selling games.

Gameplay

Super Mario Odyssey is a platformer in which players take control of Mario as he travels through many different worlds known in the game as Kingdoms in the Odyssey hat-shaped ship to rescue Princess Peach of Bowser, who plans to marry her by force.  The kingdoms of the game reverts to level design based on the exploration presented in Super Mario 64. In each kingdom, Mario seeks and clears various targets to obtain items known as Mighty Moons that can strengthen Odyssey and provide access to new worlds. Checkpoint flags scattered across the kingdoms allow Mario to instantly drift towards them as soon as they activate.  Few levels have places known as the "flat" zones where Mario is switched in a 2D side-scrolling environment similar to his looks in the original Super Mario Bros.

Mario can now launch his cap - the physical form of a hat spirit named Cappy - in multiple directions to attack enemies and use it as a temporary platform, in addition to his old existing moves like triple jump and wall jump.  When the hat is thrown at certain objects, enemies or NPCs, Mario can wield them in what is called a "grab", which allows him to use unique abilities. For example, Mario might have a Bullet Bill to fly through large holes, a Tyrannosaurus to stomp over objects, a discharge of electricity called a Spark Pylon to climb over electrical wires, and a tank called a Sherm to shoot enemies and break blocks to pass. Some actions can be sped up using the motion controls on the Joy-Con, but the game can be played in its entirety when the Joy-Con is connected to the Switch.  While in the game, Mario can collect coins, unique dwellings for each kingdom, and spend them on items such as new accessories, some of which are required to complete certain tasks.  The health system is similar to that of Super Mario Galaxy games, even though Mario has unlimited lives; the only punishment for death is the deduction of up to ten coins. The player can also collect items known as "Vital Hearts", which give three extra hit points. The game also introduces a new multiplayer game mode in which a second player takes control of Cappy and can attack enemies independently of Mario.
